Connection Crew Launch at Altitude

Connection Crew, a Community Interest Company and Social Enterprise supplying manual labour to the Event Industry, chose Altitude for a very special launch party last night.

Charlie_dorman

The 8th of May saw the company launch their ‘Connection CSR account’ at Altitude 360° Black, our 28th floor venue at the top of the Millbank Tower. Guests enjoyed panoramic views over the capital from the chic, contemporary venue as they celebrated the launch of the CSR account.

Connection Crew is the leading Social Enterprise in their industry in Europe and the only Social Enterprise operating as a crewing company. The ground-breaking Connection CSR Account has been designed to provide CCCIC’s clients with tangible recognition of the social impact that they have helped to affect through their business dealings with them.

Img_4035

As the only social enterprise in their industry, Connection Crew’s profit goes to registered charity The Connection at St Martin’s. The charity helps homeless people by providing specialist services – including a day and night centre, outreach for rough sleepers, skills training and career advice, activity programmes and specialist support for complex needs – to over 200 people in central London every day. A quarter of the Connection Crew team is made up of ‘work ready’ ex-homeless people.

Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility are becoming increasingly central to the corporate procurement agenda and Connection Crew is the first Social Enterprise in the UK to extend the benefits of their social impact to its clients and stake holders in this way.

Img_3949

The Connection CSR Account will empower CCCIC’s clients to derive a commercial commodity from the social impact that has resulted from their business relations.  This will significantly enhance account holders’ CSR transparency and accountability when tendering for new business opportunities.

A Royal Tipple

Preparations for the upcoming Diamond Jubilee are in full swing at Altitude, as we get ready to transform all five of our Millbank Tower venues into unique viewing platforms for the flotilla. We’re looking forward to toasting Her Majesty as she passes by, which has got us wondering… What is the appropriate beverage for such an occasion?

We’ll be spoilt for choice on the day, with extensive wine lists and specially created cocktails from our expert Mixologists available at our five venues. So what should we toast Her Majesty with? We think it’s a no-brainer, it’s got to be Elizabeth’s favourite, the Dubonnet cocktail.

Not for the faint hearted, this muddle of Dubonnet rouge and gin served on the rocks is reportedly the drink of choice for The Queen herself. Rumour has it the Queen Mother was quite partial to a Dubonnet cocktail too. She once noted before a trip, "...I think that I will take two small bottles of Dubonnet and gin with me this morning, in case it is needed..."

We think this means only one thing. The Dubonnet cocktail must be the elixir of life. We’re having one for lunch. We suggest you do too.

The Dubbonet Cocktail Recipe
(Also known as Zaza)

Ingredients:

·         1 1/2 oz gin

·         3/4 oz Dubonnet Rouge

·         lemon twist for garnish

Moshi Monsters Arrive at Altitude

A recent event for entertainment company Mind Candy transformed our ground floor venue, the Millbank Media Centre. The event was attended by 150 specially invited guests, and a fair few little monsters put in an appearance too!

Img_3799cropped
The event made full use of the versatile ground floor venue, which encompasses a 280 seat auditorium and adjacent reception space.

Img_3703

The day began with a welcome reception. Guests arrived to the sound of Moshi Monsters hits, and the sights of Moshi music videos played on the venues plasma screens. Guests gathered to enjoy teas, coffees and a sandwich lunch.

Guests then journeyed into the auditorium for a presentation hosted by Michael Acton Smith, founder of Moshi Monsters. Taking guests through the progression of the company and Moshi Monsters’ plans for the future, Michael Acton Smith made full use of the state-of-the-art venue. Throughout the day the adjacent reception space made an ideal setting for breaks.

Img_3749

The event concluded with a drinks reception at the foot of the Millbank Tower. Guests enjoyed a variety of divine evening snacks, prepared by our in-house chefs. Choices included cocktail sausages in honey, parmesan fried courgettes with tomato relish and rosemary and smoked sea salt wedges.

Moshi Monsters is a social network aimed at children between the ages of 7 to 12. In the game the player adopts and cares for a pet monster, solving puzzles which lead to rewards called rox. These can be used as currency to buy items for the adopted monster, such as clothing, food, and home decor. Developed in 2007 by Mind Candy, Moshi Monsters is currently reportedly played by one in three British children.

Boris chose top floor venue Altitude 360 to hear the results of the hotly contested election, before hosting a well deserved celebratory party at the chic Westminster venue. The party was attended by 300 specially invited guests, including Prime Minister David Cameron who was accompanied by his wife, Samatha.

Altitude 360 was chosen by Boris as the location for the filming of his party election broadcast, making it a fitting place to celebrate his subsequent triumph at the polls.

Altitude 360 encapsulates the entire top floor of Westminster’s iconic Millbank Tower. The premier event space features a colossal wraparound bar and chic monochromatic colour scheme. Altitude 360 is a popular choice for fashion shows, product launches and conferences as well as private parties.

Earlier this year Mayor Boris Johnson also chose Altitude 360 to host his BackBoris bootcamp which offered campaigners a masterclass in political campaigning and strategy.

Boris and his guests partied the night away in the perfect London venue, where they enjoyed drinks and delicious canapés whilst gazing over panoramic views across the capital.

WIRED Test Lab comes to Altitude London

A two day event held by BP brought members of the technology and marketing industries together to enjoy a conference on the future of the digital world at Altitude 360° Black this week.

The event was attended by WIRED magazine a publication famed for their cutting edge future technology news and reviews. Experts from the magazine spoke at the conference, bringing with them their ‘WIRED Test Lab Experience’ directly inspired by the popular test editorial sections of WIRED magazine.

Img_3686

The first day included an evening networking event and presentation at the top of the Millbank Tower.  One very popular initiative was the use of NFC (near field communication) digital business card devices provided by Poken, which allowed delegates to easily collect contact details from other delegates.

A selection of bowl food was served, including traditional fish and chips, Cumberland sausage and creamy mash with a jus and goat’s cheese, fig and beetroot salad with rocket and a honey dressing.

On the following day the 28th floor venue was used to hold a conference, in which a series of presentations were given on future technology.  Altitude 360° was used throughout the event to provide break out spaces. Lounge furniture created a relaxed feel on the 29th floor, as guests enjoyed panoramic views across the capital.

During the evening Altitude 360° Black made an ideal space for a drinks reception. The event made use of the lighting capabilities of this top floor venue, adding green backlights to make the venue’s colossal wraparound bar a focal point.

Three Steps to the Perfect Wine List

A good wine list is more than a list of wines. A good wine list can help to drive profits and margins by influencing what customers order.

Our wine partner, Bibendum Wines, who chose Altitude 360° as the setting for a wine tasting with a difference at the top of the Millbank Tower, have recently completed research unveiling exactly what is behind a good wine list, and what a really good wine list can achieve.

Img_1117

Step 1 - Understand Local Consumers

Every area of the country contains consumers with varying spending power, interests and flavour preferences. Bibendum have found that but understanding those differences is the first step to knowing what customers want to drink.

Step 2 - Use Smart Design to Sell More

People read wine lists differently to how they would read a book. Their eyes jump round the page as they scan for key words or something that grabs their attention. So, smart design is important in a wine list. A sales focussed wine list can highlight the products that will deliver the best sales result.

Step 3 - Use the Right Words

Language is key to the success of a wine list; some words will help sell a wine and others may be off-putting or confusing to your customers.

Bibendum’s research into consumer tastes led the creation of a Taste Test survey, the UK’s largest ever survey of wine drinkers’ likes, dislikes and buying habits. As part of the survey UK consumers were asked which words would be most likely to make them buy a wine from a wine list.

Below are the results for consumers from London N1, giving a specific, local insight into the most effective words for a wine list in this area:

Altitude, Art and Our Famous Neighbour

The location of Altitude London’s venues is perfect in more ways than one. We’re in the heart of Westminster, surrounded by London’s monumental landmarks. We’re the tallest riverside building on the Thames – so our views are inimitable. But we also benefit from a rather famous neighbour, a gallery which goes by the name Tate Britain.

Tate_britain_smaller

Our Millbank Tower venues make an ideal location for art lovers, offering the opportunity to visit one of the country’s most famous galleries before or after an event with us.

Picasso6
Picassoexhibition2
Art lovers will delight in the exhibitions put on by the Tate, which feature prominent and often legendary names from the world of art. A current exhibition of Picasso’s work, Picasso and Modern British Art, brings together over 150 spectacular artworks, with over 60 stunning Picassos including sublime paintings from the most remarkable moments in his career, such as Weeping Woman 1937 and The Three Dancers 1925.

Tate

The artistic theme is carried on at Westminster’s Millbank Tower, home to the five unique events space of Altitude London, and conveniently only a stone’s throw from Tate Britain. Guests will enter the ground floor lobby to see work by distinguished artist Damien Hirst, before journeying upstairs to one of Altitude’s premier venues.

Large groups seeking views over the capital would benefit from the stylish yet versatile top floor venues, Altitude 360° and Altitude 360° Black.

123x
The Millbank Media Centre, on the ground floor of the Millbank Tower would make an ideal setting for a presentation or screening whilst guests will also be able to utilise the adjacent bar and reception space. Second floor venue the River Room features a fully licensed waterfall bar and aqua wall, both popular attractions for partygoers.

Img_3582high_rez

The River Room’s adjacent Paint Gallery would be ideal for a creative group, who could follow an afternoon of sketching with an event in this unique conceptual art gallery and entertainment space. Here guests will be able to enjoy admiring three huge murals by the highly acclaimed street artist David Walker which adorn the walls of this venue.

Paintgallery

Altitude’s artistic flair has been seen recently at events which have employed the talents of our very own window doodlers. Window doodlers provide a live drawing service for clients, allowing them to utilise the expansive windows of Altitude venues to display branding and images. A recent site visit for Virgin Galactic saw the doodlers create an illustrated timeline of this well known brand, from its beginnings as Virgin Records to Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Galactic of the present day.

A Virtual Stroll around Altitude with Google Places

A new service from Google is to allow users to see a virtual tour of venues, restaurants and bars. The tour will be similar to the search engine’s current ‘street view’ function, giving visitors to ‘Google Places’ a real sense of the destination they’re viewing.

As soon as we heard about it we just had to get involved, and quickly invited Google to come up to the top of the Millbank Tower to get started on our virtual tour guide! We’re the first corporate venue to get the Google treatment, which remains in its infancy in London. Currently only a handful of the city’s bars, restaurants and clubs have added the feature.

Click here to take a virtual stroll through Altitude 360°.

The tour is done through a series of photographs, which are uploaded in series to allow those viewing our Google Places page to see Altitude in all its glory.

The tour shows our top floor venue, Altitude 360°, as well as sixth floor venue The View Studios.

The new technology will also enable visitors to see the extent of our 360 degree panoramic views across the capital – perfect for a little virtual sightseeing!

A Very Happy Birthday to Carlton Books

Carlton Publishing Group celebrated their 20th birthday with a lavish celebration at Altitude 360° this month. The evening saw Carlton celebrate two decades of innovative publishing at the top of the Millbank Tower.

Carlton_party-2

Guests were greeted with a drinks reception on the 29th floor of the iconic building, where they enjoyed views of the sunset over London as the party began.  Expert mixologists were on hand preparing two classic cocktails, the Cosmpolitan and the Mojito, starting the evening in style.

The venue held a showcase of books to be published in the year ahead, from fashion and lifestyle to music, film and sports publishing.

The event also showcased a major release for Carlton Books, Alexander McQueen, which was launched with the preview of two rare items of McQueen clothing, on display for the first time at the event. The items included a printed coat, featuring a colony of blind Native American design, a one-off sample made for the "Dante" collection A/W 1996, as well as a striking brocade jacket from the collection "It's A Jungle Out There" A/W 1997.

In addition a major release, Freddie Mercury, was previewed, giving guests the chance to see the original of one of Freddie's most iconic costumes worn on his last ever concert tour.

As guests perused the new releases a selection of bowl food was served, including wild and chestnut mushroom risotto, traditional homemade breaded fish and chips and cumberland sausage with creamy mash – before the cutting of a very special book themed birthday cake.

The event was the second at Altitude for Carlton Books, who recently used sister venue Altitude 360° Black for the launch of Dressing Marilyn, a new book by Andrew Hansford on the late style muse.
